Another busy year is drawing to a close. It seems that the years are getting faster & faster. I hope all those who wrote exams managed to realize their goals.
Congratulations to all who qualified for CGA champs. May you all do personal bests?
I would like to extend an invitation to anyone who can assist on the committee next year. We will need the services of a secretary, as Helen will be stepping down and I will be stepping down as Chairman.
To all those travelling over the holiday season, travel safe & I hope you all have a relaxing break. I wish you all a very happy Christmas & look forward to a fantastic 2012.

Red Bull, Rock Star, Amp, Monster Energy—enticing labels for a tired and thirsty swimmer. Energy drinks are one of the fastest growing segments of drink sales in America and their popularity is growing, especially among youth. Athletes use energy drinks to rehydrate after a workout, boost attention and focus during school, “wake up,” or as a routine beverage at meals. Don’t be misled by something that sounds too good to be true—while an all-in-one drink is tempting, it carries some serious considerations for young athletes. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), children and teens should avoid energy drinks.
Confusion exists about the difference between a sports drink and an energy drink, so let’s clear this up. A sports drink contains a small amount of carbohydrate, minerals, electrolytes and flavorings and is designed to replace those nutrients lost through sweating after exercise. Gatorade is an example of a sports drink.

Well, the season is already half way through!! It has literally flown (or swum) past like a speeding bullet (or a Thando!). A couple more galas to go next year and we are back in the regionals and nationals!
In summary, our swimmers have participated in 2 Winter Galas, in the CGA Junior Short Course Champs, in the CGA Level 1 #1 (cancelled due to inclement pool conditions), 2 and 3 and finally the CGA Level 2/3 #1, 2 and 3 Galas. We were also fortunate enough to have swimmers chosen to represent Gauteng in the NTS Junior Inter Provincial Gala.

A new year means new challenges. Next year the DSC committee have decided to change our Dorey’s challenge into something of a team building and social event, with the emphasis being on FUN for swimmers and spectators alike.
The date for this new challenge is going to be Saturday 14 January 2012 (time to be advised), at Adrian Dorey’s pool. All club members will be put into teams of varying ages and, yes, believe it or not Adrian has agreed to this – you are going to play water polo!!!!!

It is that time of the season when the committee needs all the swimmers’ help in designing our club t-shirt for Nationals in March 2012. Each swimmer is asked to put their heads and pencils together to submit a design by 20 January 2012 for our cool club t-shirt to be worn by all DSC swimmers at Nationals! Entries can be given to a Committee member, Adrian or put in the box at the pool.

The swimmer who says, "It can't be done" is passed by the swimmer who is doing it.
SPLASHING CONGRATULATIONS TO:
